Miti e modelli dell'Italia comunale nella cultura e nelle arti dell'Ottocento

Historical research and erudition, school teaching, the figurative arts and literature of the 19th century are populated with images and suggestions of the Medieval communes, where visions of the past and needs of the present entwined and left a mark on the very perception of that historical period in the Italian tradition. The volume analyzes the importance of the Medieval commune as a model and historical myth in the intellectual life of the 19th century, not only in terms of political thought but also in its most diverse cultural manifestations.

Lorenzo Tanzini (Montevarchi 1976) è professore associato Storia medievale presso l’Università di Cagliari e membro della redazione dell'Archivio storico italiano. Si interessa soprattutto di storia delle istituzioni e della cultura politica tra Medioevo e prima età moderna, con particolare riguardo a Firenze e alla Toscana: tra i suoi lavori più recenti A consiglio. La vita politica nell'Italia dei comuni (Roma-Bari, 2014) e 1345. La bancarotta di Firenze (Roma, 2018).
