In the tradition of therapeutics for the soul, De Consolatione (1542) deals with unhappiness in life. Cardano observes through a disenchanted gaze the great theater of the world where the sources of suffering are increased by illusion, deception and prevarication. While time is the universal medicine for pain and equality is restored by death, what matters are individual actions and the self-awareness that makes them possible. The text is the first Italian translation, based on the Latin version of the 2019 Olschki edition.
