This fifth volume temporarily concludes the series of studies dedicated to the reconstruction of Michelangelo’s activity during his youth. On the grounds of photographs, Hercules can now be identified as having been sculpted by the artist in 1492 at the age of seventeen, already at Fontainbleau and no longer remembered from the end of 1700. The volume contains a chapter on the relationship between Donatello and Michelangelo, one on Buonarroti’s poems and a revision of the previous volumes of 1968, ’75, ’81 and ’92.
