Weaving together thoughts and drawings, Alberto Manguel brings to life an unusual and evocative journey through different conceptions of the world and its origins. His reflections on the four elements traverse human philosophies and practices, following the path of the inexorable - possible or illusory - search for a universal order. While Dante’s figure looms large, concealed behind a veil of cross-references but never revealed, it is clay – the ultimate ancestral material – which represents the key that holds together earth, water, air and fire.

Alberto Manguel
È uno scrittore, traduttore e critico canadese. Ha pubblicato sia narrativa che saggistica e ha ricevuto numerosi premi internazionali, tra cui il Formentor 2017 e il Premio Gutenberg 2018. Fino ad agosto 2018 è stato direttore della Biblioteca nazionale argentina. Ha occupato la cattedra di "Europa: lingue e letterature" presso il Collège de France dal 2021 al 2022. Attualmente è direttore di "Espaço Atlântida: Centro de Estudos da História da Leitura" a Lisbona. - (agosto 2022) -
