Francesco Del Cossa intorno al 1472: due studi

Of the Ferrara-born Francesco del Cossa, one of the greatest painters of the 15th century, we know mostly about the second part of his career, which took place mostly in Bologna, where he completed the altar of the Griffoni Chapel in San Petronio, which was dismantled and dispersed in the 18th century, and painted the Baraccano fresco, incorporating parts of a miraculous early 14th-century Madonna and Child. Through the two essays that make up this volume, which focus on these works, we get a more extensive reconstruction of the artist and a different and more historicized notion of "restoration."

Massimo Ferretti
Massimo Ferretti (Pisa, 1949) è professore emerito della Scuola Normale, dove ha insegnato Storia dell’arte dal 2001 al 2019. Si è occupato di pittura toscana, emiliana, veneta e di scultura, spaziando dal Duecento al Cinquecento (studiando Jacopo della Quercia, Nicolò dell’Arca, Matteo Civitali, Benedetto da Maiano, Guido Mazzoni, Tullio Lombardo, Antonio Begarelli). Per la Storia dell’arte italiana di Einaudi ha pubblicato saggi sulla tarsia prospettica e sulla falsificazione, argomento che evidenzia la sua attenzione anche per le forme della memoria storico-artistica dell’Otto-Novecento (documentazione fotografica, editoria, musei e mostre).
