The book provides basic guidelines for the study of rhythm in literary prose that help to get rid of vagueness in the analysis of style and base it on more objective foundations, by finding some points of convergence of the phonic, the rhythmic and the semantic. The method is illustrated by a research on works of the Nineteenth and Twentieth century that highlights the link between sound and meaning in literary prose.
