Among the relationships traditionally studied within the framework of the complex sentence, the concept of purpose is notable both for the great wealth of its means of expression and for the crucial place it occupies in our spontaneous thought. The present work aims both at illustrating the wealth of means of expression, including grammatical, textual and lexical resources usually ignored in a more traditional approach, and at analysing the complex constellation of concepts which are relied upon within our common vision of human action.
