The term Nature is analysed in its historical evolution from ancient times through the Middle Ages, by comparing Platonism and Aristotelism, to Renaissance thought as well as the science and philosophy of the 17th century. While authors such as Vico and Kant intend to reconsider the relationship between epistemology and the science of Nature, German Romanticism deals with Renaissance themes, eclectically combining them with the achievements of contemporary science.
