This is the first volume of a series devoted to the study and comparison of the «delizie» or «houses of pleasure» and similar experiences in Europe. These villas were located in the Duchy of Ferrara, ruled by the Este family until 1598. «Delizie in villa» examines the history and complex ideology underlying the concept of «delizia» and, with the help of major scholars, analyses and compares the situation in Ferrara with that elsewhere in Italy and in Europe.
