This study, in two volumes, is part of an extensive research on the relationship between music and poetry when this was the focal point of French and European cultural debates: Romanticism and Symbolism. Reflecting on the presence of musical instruments in poetical imagination the author highlights its symbolic and cognitive value accepted as an emblem of the arcane correspondence between form and sound: the origin of language and the mystery of creation.

Michela Landi
Michela Landi, francesista, collabora con la Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia dell’Università di Firenze. Co-redattrice della «Rivista di Letterature Moderne e Comparate» e di «Semicerchio », ha pubblicato: Mario Luzi fidèle à la vie (Paris, 1995), Il mare e la cattedrale (Pisa, 2001), Decadenza e poetica del francese nella ‘Lettre sur les sourds et muets’ di Diderot (Pisa, 2003), L’arco e la lira (Pisa, 2006), oltre a numerosi articoli in riviste specialistiche. Ha curato, per il quotidiano «La Repubblica», l’Antologia della poesia francese (Roma, 2004).
