La presenza di Dionigi Areopagita nel «Paradiso» di Dante

Dante used angelology and astrology to classify the kinds of blessed and he was helped by Albertus Magnus’ commentary on the «De Caelesti Hierarchia»: the proof that Dante read Albertus’ commentary is the prerogative he gives to the angels called Thrones. From neoplatonic Dionysian-eriugenian philosophy, the poet took the threefold structure of the universe, which implies a journey through each section. Another Dionysian debt is the use of the metaphor of the mirrors.

Laureato in Lettere Classiche presso l’Università di Macerata con una tesi in Filologia e Storia bizantina, ha conseguito il Dottorato (Ph.D.) alla University of Toronto presso il Department of Italian Studies specializzandosi in Dante. Negli anni del Dottorato ha collaborato con la BIGLLI e con la rivista del Dipartimento “Quaderni di Italianistica”; del medesimo Dipartimento è membro della “Committee for Research Projects in 16th-17th Centuries Italian Literature”. È autore di diversi articoli e del volume “La presenza di Dionigi Areopagita nel Paradiso di Dante”, Firenze, Olschki, 2006. Attualmente è professore di Lettere nei Licei.
