Jacopo Piccinino, the famous condottiere from Perugia, died under mysterious circumstances in 1465. The company he commanded, known as the Bracceschi, was more than simply a band of mercenaries thanks to its prestigious tradition and Piccinino’s high-level political alliances. This is a history of the Bracceschi and of their surprisingly influential role at the center of a political network opposed to some of Italy’s major states. Includes the hitherto unpublished 16th-century biography of Piccinino by Giovangirolamo Rossi.
