The early centuries of count Guidi’s family history are rediscovered by means of a collection of 242 documents dating back from the very beginning up to 1164, when Federico Barbarossa issued count Guido VII Guerra with a document certifying possessions in Romagna and Tuscany, and with the official recognition of the title 'comes Tusciae'. Several narrative sources and texts from other origins have been included with the numerous papers from diplomatic funds.
