Based on the use of original sources this work endeavours to throw light on evolution in the lengthy period of the silk industry in the Tuscan countryside during modern times (production of the cocoon, raw silk and twisted silk) that, although it reached neither the dimensions nor the importance of that achieved in the Po area it had nonetheless an enormous effect on the economy of the region during modern times.
