For much of the fifteenth century the churches of S. Felice in Piazza, S. Maria del Carmine and S. Spirito housed religious performances of the Annunciation, Ascension and Pentecost. Tome I traces the development of these three holidays in the Florentine context along with the activity of the artists and artisans responsible for them, it also includes interpretations and translations of key documents. Tome II contains the transcription of yearly inventories and expenditures together with other documents relating to the holidays themselves, descriptions of the individual plays and the various government regulations.
