The starting point for a more thorough study on psychiatric assistance in Florence during the nineteenth century, the volume is divided into various sections that bring to light theoretical debates and institutional affairs that accompany the foundation of the hospital, its internal history, its connection with the Clinica Universitaria. This research therefore is integrated in a very fertile stream of studies on the history of mental illnesses in Florence throwing light on a question of great interest from the social, institutional and medical-historical point of view.
