The aim of this journal is to nourish the trend of ‘critical’ musicology in Italy and abroad. Articles are published in French, English, Italian, Spanish and German with Italian or English abstracts. The journal is spokesman for no particular organisation if not that of a group of scholars who animate and direct it. It is based in the Department of the Arts of the University of Bologna and is connected to the association «Il Saggiatore musicale» that, since 1995, promotes lectures, conferences, meetings, musicological seminars, as well as a study group on Music Education (SagGEM; 2007 ff.) and a related digital journal, «Musica docta» (2011 ff.; ISSN 2039-9715; ABIS-AlmaDL).
