This book is the autobiography of Enrico Salza based on an interview by Giuseppe Russo, accompanied by a selection of his writings. Salza retraces his professional life and ethical choices in various fields: business, banking, publishing, politics. The volume offers a historical and critical reconstruction of Salza’s role at Istituto Bancario San Paolo di Torino, as well as an outline of the banking institution’s phases of growth ultimately leading to the merger with Intesa. The banking history of Italy and the evolution of Turin provide a backdrop to the story, which is intended as a contribution to economic and social history and a contemporary example of civic liberalism.
