John Baptist Jackson incisore nella Venezia del Settecento

John Baptist Jackson was one of the most important printmakers of the 18th century. Active in Venice between 1731 and 1745, he produced and published a fascinating series of chiaroscuro woodcuts that are currently preserved in the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana. The “stupendous specimens” (as defined by Rodolfo Pallucchini) are now on display after a careful study and restoration campaign, that sheds light on hitherto unpublished aspects of Jackson's biography and underscores his dialogue with Venetian art from the 16th to the 18th century, of which he was one of the most significant and original interpreters.
