The authors, after publishing the first edition of this text in English in 2015, now felt the need to make their analysis more accessible to the Italian public and took the opportunity to update it and add further details, thus also responding to other, later attempts to interpret Giorgione's Tempest, whose iconological program has been one of the great enigmas of art history for centuries. Ursula and Warren Kirkendale, a pair of art historians, confirm what they had shown seven years ago: the painting's source is Hesiod's Theogony.

Ursula Kirkendale

Warren Kirkendale
Ursula Kirkendale ha conseguito il dottorato in musicologia storica a Bonn e ha insegnato in importanti università americane fino a quando, nel 1971, un ictus ha posto fine al suo insegnamento, ma non alle sue ricerche. Ci ha lasciati nel 2013.
Suo marito, dottore di ricerca a Vienna, poi residente con la moglie a Roma, è stato professore di storia della musica in diversi atenei e continua a svolgere attività di ricerca.
Insieme si sono occupati, tra le altre cose, dell'arte del Cinquecento a Firenze e a Roma.
