Il Conservatorio di musica di Palermo nel contesto italiano ed europeo

The Palermo Conservatory of Music was founded in 1617 as a charitable institution along the lines of the Neapolitan conservatories to assist orphaned or abandoned children. During the 18th century it assumed as its primary purpose music teaching. In 1866 it became state-run; in 1917 the boarding school was abolished, ending three centuries of welfare tradition. This volume traces some significant moments in its history and that of other similar institutions through fifteen essays by Italian and foreign authors.
The enclosed CD-Audio contains pieces by Gaetano Donizetti and Antonio Pasculli performed by the "V. Bellini" Symphony Orchestra of the Palermo Conservatory from manuscripts kept at the Conservatory Library.

Anna Tedesco insegna Storia del teatro musicale nell’Università di Palermo. È autrice di numerosi lavori dedicati all’opera italiana del Seicento (tra cui il volume Il Teatro Santa Cecilia e il Seicento musicale palermitano) e alla recezione dell’opera francese in Italia nell’Ottocento. Le sue ricerche recenti vertono sui rapporti musicali tra Italia e Spagna nel XVII secolo, nel duplice senso delle influenze drammaturgiche e del mecenatismo dei viceré spagnoli in Italia. Sta preparando l’edizione critica dell’Egisto di Francesco Cavalli per la serie Francesco Cavalli: Opere (Kassel: Bärenreiter, 2012–). - (settembre 2016) -
