The study offers readers an unprecedented image of the intellectual itinerary of Lodovico Antonio Muratori, who drew on and injected new life into the reflections that developed in sixteenth-century Italy, listening to voices that Counter-Reformation zeal had left on the side-lines. Analysing the impact that the rediscovery of those texts had on his work as a reformer pinpoints a new path through which the legacy of the Italian Renaissance was embraced and flourished in Italy and Europe in the eighteenth century.

Manuela Bragagnolo
Manuela Bragagnolo è ricercatrice al Max-Planck-Institut für europäische Rechtsgeschichte di Francoforte sul Meno. Ha svolto attività di ricerca presso l’Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America, Columbia University, l’Institut d’histoire de la Réformation di Ginevra, il Laboratoire d’Excellence COMOD (Constitution de la modernité) dell’Università di Lione e il laboratorio di ricerca Triangle, École Normale Supérieure di Lione. Si è occupata del pensiero politico e giuridico di Lodovico Antonio Muratori, della fisiognomica tra Cinque e Settecento e della teologia morale. - (gennaio 2018) -
