This is the first book to take a comprehensive and in-depth look at Venetian drawing between 1580 and 1650. The enormous number of drawings collected and analysed here provides insight to this corpus and its components – missing and unobtainable until now – by examining the drawings of dozens of painters active in the Venetian Republic during this period. Furthermore, the volume offers a rich array of information on function and destination, as well as patrons and collectors.
