In 1579 Alessandro Valignano travelled to Japan to reorganize the Jesuit mission in Asia and he discovered a surprising country with a sophisticated and ancient culture.
With the support of Japanese noblemen, he organized a journey to Europe with four young Japanese aristocrats; their stories form the body of the work, offered here in its first and only Italian translation. De Missione is surprising in its modernity and it strives to establish a “culture of dialogue”, almost as if to lay the groundwork for civil coexistence.
