The book is the first ever published about the monumental Cimitero agli Allori – the Evangelical Cemetery of the Laurels – in Florence, and is divided into a section with essays and one with biographies of the deceased. It examines the cemetery as an open-air museum, with important works of sculpture and the applied arts from the 19th and 20th centuries, but it also follows the lives of those buried here and the connection between individual lives and the city of Florence.

Grazia Gobbi Sica
Grazia Gobbi Sica, riminese, architetto, vive a Firenze. Già docente dell’Ateneo fiorentino alla Facoltà di Architettura, a partire dagli anni Novanta ha tenuto anche corsi di specializzazione e master alla Facoltà di Lettere e alla New York University in Florence. È autrice di numerosi saggi di storia e analisi urbana; fra questi: Rimini nella collana Laterza «Le città nella storia d’Italia» (Bari, 1982, in collaborazione con Paolo Sica); Firenze. Itinerari di architettura moderna (Firenze, 1986); La villa fiorentina: elementi storici e critici per una lettura (Firenze, 1998); The Florentine Villa: Architecture, History, Society (London, 2007).
