Acquedotti e fontane del Rinascimento in Toscana
Acqua, architettura e città al tempo di Cosimo I dei Medici

In a city that was characterized by the use of wells for centuries, the decision of Cosimo de’ Medici to construct a water system to supply the first major fountain in the history of Florence marked a highly significant event. In the mid-sixteenth century, Rome, Bologna, Florence, Genoa, Messina, Naples and Palermo, along with other Italian cities, saw the creation and improvement of water-supply systems or plans to construct them. This made it possible to build monumental fountains with increasingly complex sculptural works as well as political and celebratory aims, in close connection with the urban space to be adorned.

Emanuela Ferretti
Laureata in Architettura (1996), Emanuela Ferretti è specializzata in Archeologia e Storia dell’Arte. Dottore di Ricerca in Storia dell’Architettura e dell’Urbanistica, svolge attività didattica e di ricerca presso il Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze. Nel 2012-2013 è stata Fellow presso Villa I Tatti The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies. Ha compiuto numerosi studi sull’architettura nel Rinascimento, lavorando sulle dinamiche del cantiere storico, sulle tecniche costruttive, sulle acque e sull’opera di Michelangelo. Ha pubblicato su importanti riviste italiane e straniere, organizzato convegni e curato mostre, tra cui Michelangelo e il Novecento (Firenze, Casa Buonarroti, 2014). - (marzo 2016) -
