Metamorphosis is a central theme of ancient literature and mythology, but also appeared in the scientific thought on nature. As a product of forces that escape the laws of nature, prodigious transformation was considered through categories typical of natural transformation, offering an opportunity to investigate the boundary zone between literature and science that in ancient culture was not so clear as it is today.
