This catalogue, a joint effort by art and music historians, provides an analysis of the history and the artworks that make up the collection of portraits of musicians started by the Franciscan musicographer Giambattista Martini around 1770 and continued in the 19th and 20th centuries. Housed today in the Museum of Music of the town of Bologna, it consists of 312 paintings, including in particular famous portraits of Zarlino, Caldara, Porpora, Farinelli, Gluck, J.C. Bach, Mozart, Isabel Colbran, Lord Burghersh, Rossini, Martucci, and M.E. Bossi.
