The 274 Hebrew fragments catalogued here have been recomposed in 124 original medieval manuscripts, copied during the 11th-16th centuries in the three Western scriptural traditions (Sephardic, Ashkenazic and Italian). They survived for having been re-used as bindings of records and books kept in the Modena State Archives. Also included are ancient 11th-century Bibles copied in Southern Italy, precious texts of the Mishnah and the Babylonian Talmud, normative, philosophical, kabbalistic works and some rare scientific texts.
