From Renaissance to Enlightenment the genre of the dialogue was used in Europe to communicate any kind of knowledge. Inspired by everyday conversations or by classical models, the dialogue conveyed an idea of sociability often tied to a certain place. Each article examines a topical place of dialogue such as the garden, the library and the salon. The book is introduced by a conversation between Marc Fumaroli and Amedeo Quondam.
