Art and literature intersect within the context of myth and princely genealogy, tracing the paths of the gods of Casa d’Este, a theme which turns into an opportunity for a crosswise analysis of the ideology of the Este’s and of its reception. The volume features lions, whales, hippogriffs, winged horses, mythical narrations, gods and demi-gods, heroes and finally princes, whose aspiration is that of creating – in and with myth – a sort of historical eternity and political justification for themselves.
