La «Musurgia universalis» di Athanasius Kircher

Starting from the iconographic and interpretative analysis of the frontispieces, the text traces all the sources – direct and indirect, ancient and modern – concerning the generation, propagation and reception of sound. Then it explains the ‘scientific nature’ of music, its definition and temporal scansion. Finally, with special reference to Kirchner’s terminology, it presents a «history of music» suspended between biblical revelation and Pythagorean-Platonic tradition, so that the art of composition becomes a meeting place for ancient and modern cultures.

Tiziana Pangrazi
Terminati gli studi musicali, Tiziana Pangrazi si è laureata in Filosofia e successivamente in Lettere. Ha svolto attività di concertista, come solista, e in formazioni cameristiche e orchestrali, e ha partecipato ai seminari didattico-pedagogici della S.I.E.M. Nel 2007 ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in «Storia delle idee e della vita intellettuale dal Rinascimento all’Età Moderna» (Roma) con una tesi sulla Musurgia Universalis di Athanasius Kircher.
