This research work is based on a thorough analysis of extensive documentation concerning the construction of Florence cathedral. The author investigates the relationship between the individual genius of the artist and the planning, creative energy of the community and how this energy is expressed and put into practice. The Opera del Duomo was the cornerstone of the project, but many expert committees played a decisive role by actively participating in the formulation of the final project.
