This work throws light on the important role Paolo Giovio played in the 16th century artistic evolution by reconstructing his numerous and intense relationships with the contemporary world of artists, commissioners and patrons: what emerges is a vivid and coherent image of this historian from Como as an art collector, writer and adviser for eminent decorative and monumental undertakings accomplished during the first half of the century between Florence, Rome, Spanish-Milan and the territory governed by the viceroy.

Barbara Agosti
Barbara Agosti è nata a Milano nel 1965. Ha studiato all’Università degli Studi di Pavia e alla Scuola Normale di Pisa. Le sue ricerche hanno coinvolto vari aspetti e figure della cultura artistica cinque e seicentesca, di area settentrionale e meridionale, con particolare attenzione al tema dei rapporti tra artisti e letterati. Insegna Storia della critica d’arte presso l’Università degli Studi di Roma «Tor Vergata».
