Pastoral drama in pre-modern Italy is analyzed from different disciplinary perspectives. From its origins, the analysis of pastoral drama has provided valuable insight into Renaissance and Baroque linguistic experimentation, in both its literary and performative aspects. Some of these essays examine the relationships between poetry and drama, others examine the pastoral mode in music and dance, the major expressions of the art of entertainment, some others present a similar study on visual arts.
