Machiavelli con Bartolo

Moving on from Innocent Gentillet’s comparison between Machiavelli and Bartolous of Sassoferrato in his Contre Machiavel (1576) – and contrary to his invitation to suspend further investigation into the matter – Cavallar, Barthas and Najemy approach it from a different angle rather than the traditional one of political realism. The point is if and how the legal question considered by Bartolo in his De Tyranno (1355) sheds new light on the accusation made against Machiavelli and Soderini in their wanting to «establish a tyranny»?
