Una storia del pensiero dantesco

Dante based his thought on the idea of knowledge as a social product and on the principle that «men are naturally friendly to each other»: from which derived a sense of solidarity among those who made erudition their profession: these learned people had to collocate themselves and their knowledge in a society and a hierarchy leading from God to the sublunar world. The IX canto of Dante’s Purgatorio is a critical point constituting a climax in the ethic-political theory of the Poet.
