Del vero e del falso nel «Sofista» di Platone
Con un saggio sul «Cratilo»

Moments of Platonic speculation on truth and falsehood. According to «Cratylus»’ speech language reflects the nature of the object. In the «Sophist» we search for the objectivity of beings, from the logical-glottological level to the ontological one. After overcoming Parmenides’ denial of non-being in itself and after postulating that falsehood exists, because it participates in relative non-being, it is demonstrated that falsehood is in speech (true or false). Innovation and philosophical-linguistic significance of a fully articulated human speech.

Alfonso de Petris si è laureato in Filosofia con E. Garin, Università di Firenze. Ha trascorso un ventennio alla University of California, at Davis, come Assistant, Associate e Full Professor. Vi ha curato edizioni critiche di testi manettiani inediti (Vita Socratis et Senecae, Firenze, Olschki, 1979; Apologeticus, Roma, Ed. St. Lett., 1981; Dialogus consolatorius, ibid., 1983) e studi per Riviste come Giornale St. Lett. it., Rinascimento, Bibliothèque d’Hum. et Ren., Renaissance Quarterly, Italian Quarterly. Dal 1990 Ordinario di Filologia latina medievale-umanistica (Ling.-Lett. lat., Filologia classica) alla “G. d’Annunzio”, CHIETI-PESCSARA. Già Direttore di Dipt. “Studi Comparati”, Coordinatore Dottorati Ricerca (“Arti comparate”, “, testo, letterarietà”), Decano Facoltà Lingue. Ha pubblicato numerosi saggi e Prometeo, un mito, Firenze, Olschki, 2003.
