Critical edition of Felice Romani’s libretto for Johann Simon Mayr, with an extensive introductory essay describing the history of this opera commissioned in 1813 by the Teatro di San Carlo of Naples, and its great international success, which was due to Giuditta Pasta’s interpretation. Russo also describes the dramatic, lyrical and choreographic tradition of the the myth of Medea in Corinto in Italy and how this influenced Romani’s metrical and poetical choices.
