A collection of short essays and proof of tangible experiences on a theme of vital importance for the future of European museums in occasion of the 2001 annual workshop European Museum Forum held in Monsummano to which approximately 50 people from more than ten countries took part. Concluding the volume is a previously unpublished article by Kenneth Hudson (promoter of the European Museum of the Year award that gave birth to the EMF) and the conclusions of the 2000 and 2001 EMF workshops.
