- About this book
The volume presents a study on the Jewish Community of Livorno in the 17th century, the first century in the life of this community, during which it became one of the principal centres of the Sephardic diaspora. Through analysis of rich archival documentation the social, religious and political organisation of the community is reconstructed paying particular attention to the structure of the family, to the matrimonial and patrimonial system, to the relation between religious tradition and sexual roles.
