The diaries represent a precious source in understanding the difficulties against which the Italo-Soviet relationship, and bipolar ones in general, advanced towards the end of the Fifties beginning of the Sixties. From Moscow, Pietromarchi records the difficulties encountered in the process of normalisation of bilateral relations and the resolution of the second Berlin crisis, that began in 1958 and ended with the building of the Wall in August 1961, several weeks after the Ambassador was called back to Rome.
