A study of antique and mediaeval commentators of Aristotle demonstrates that comparative logic has over the centuries been considered the basis of philosophy. Furthermore it reconstructs the way in which Galilei interpreted this logic to confute cosmology and the Aristotelian theory of movement. Last but not least it shows that comparative logic was fundamental for Tommaso D’Aquino’s «quarta via».
