The topics dealt with concern the centuries that historiography has identified as the period of the decline and fall of the Roman Empire. Today , on the contrary, a deeper and more vivid consideration is shown towards these events that are seen moreover as a transformation, a transition, a development towards new forms of life, culture and society, renewed and revitalized by those who seemed to deny them. In the most recent historiography the concept of «decadence» has been substituted with that of «late antiquity».
