Undoubtedly the first treatment of the life and thought of Daniel Zwicker. Passionate promulgator of the ideals of Irenaeus and tolerance in mid 17th century Amsterdam, Zwicker carried out his intense activity by taking his stand in the colourful world of exiles; his sensational publications defending religious peace and tolerance found both publishers and translators. By no means a lesser credit of this book is the entire production of the inventory of the Zwicker library (carried out with a certain amount of technical expedience), recently discovered in the Archives of the City of Amsterdam.
