The journal, established to fill a void in Italian academia and backed by a large international committee, aims to offer already-known authors and younger researchers room for their contribution regarding illustrated printed books in various forms, from their fifteenth-century origins to the contemporary era. It is also a venue in which scholars representing various fronts (historians of books and illustrations, but also art and literature historians) can dialogue and engage regarding the fertile subject of the relationship between text and image.
"L’Illustrazione" is published in a format of 29.5 x 21 cm and each issue is accompanied by an extensive iconography. It is proposed on an annual basis and is divided into two sections. The first contains previously unpublished essays in Italian and the main foreign languages, whereas the second offers detailed reviews of recent books and publications, offering an up-to-date international overview of studies about illustrated printed books.
Giancarlo Petrella
Giancarlo Petrella insegna Storia e Conservazione del Patrimonio librario presso l’Università degli Studi Federico II di Napoli e Storia del Libro presso la Scuola Superiore Meridionale. Membro del comitato scientifico delle riviste «La Bibliofilia» e «Paratesto», ha fondato e dirige la rivista «L’Illustrazione» dedicata al libro a stampa illustrato. Bibliografo e storico del libro, è autore di numerosi contributi e monografie riguardanti la produzione, circolazione e conservazione del libro tra Rinascimento ed Età Moderna (tra le più recenti, À la chasse au bonheur. I libri ritrovati di Renzo Bonfiglioli e altri episodi di storia del collezionismo italiano del Novecento, Firenze, Olschki, 2016; L’impresa tipografica di Battista Farfengo a Brescia fra cultura umanistica ed editoria popolare (1489-1500), Firenze, Olschki, 2018). - (marzo 2020) -
