This book focuses on the role of pages, the young attendants who served the main Italian courts, and covers a period of time of about three centuries: from the beginning of the sixteenth century to the middle of the nineteenth. The essays collected here illustrate the various occupations of page boys who, for centuries, were essential figures in court life under the ancient regime, as they learned to serve and acquired familiarity with the art of command.

Andrea Merlotti
Andrea Merlotti, storico, dirige il Centro studi del Consorzio delle Residenze Reali Sabaude. Ha curato vari libri su riti e cerimonie nelle corti europee, fra cui Le tavole di corte fra Cinque e Settecento (Roma, Bulzoni, 2013) e Le cacce reali nell’Europa dei principi (Firenze, Olschki, 2017). Ha realizzato diverse mostre corredate da cataloghi, fra cui, con S. Ghisotti, Dalle regge d'Italia. Tesori e simboli della regalità sabauda, (Venaria-Genova, Sagep, 2017). È autore con P. Bianchi d’una Storia degli Stati sabaudi, 1416-1848 (Brescia, Morcelliana, 2017). Con P. Cozzo e A. Nicolotti ha curato The Shroud at Court. History, Usages, Places and Images of a Dinastic Relic (Boston-Leida, Brill, 2019). Per il Mulino ha scritto Andare per regge e residenze (2018) e, con P. Bianchi, Andare per l’Italia di Napoleone (2021).
