In view of the new edition of Isocrates in the Oxford Classical Texts, the authors address problems regarding both the critique of the text and the history of this tradition: the contribution of papyruses to the constitution of the text, the levels of interpretation of paraenetic discourses, and the specific nature of the hypotheseis. An analysis of the formation of the vulgata in the 16th century supplements an examination of the reception in Germany of the Archidamus and the singular story of the Antidosis, which was not discovered in its entirety until the early 19th century.
