The end of the Restoration and the aftermath of the Revolution of 1830 bequeathed to France a broken society. In the debate on the possible factors of civil rebirth, journals and encyclopaedias assumed a major role as vehicles for disseminating knowledge and promoting the growth of democracy. Walter Tega analyzes in this essay the point of view of the leading intellectuals of the age, on the relationship between science and politics.

Walter Tega
Walter Tega, professore di Storia della Filosofia presso l’Università di Bologna, ha condotto ricerche sull’unità del sapere e sull’enciclopedismo moderno, sulla storia delle idee, sulla filosofia naturale in età moderna, sul dibattito relativo alla modernità, sulla filosofia italiana contemporanea con particolare riferimento al neo-illuminismo. Ha istituito e coordinato il dottorato di Storia delle idee, Filosofia e Scienze. è direttore della rivista internazionale «Philosophia». - (novembre 2013) -
