Orfeo, Apollo, Arione e Davide nella grafica tra Quattro e Cinquecento

The catalogue collects images of works dedicated to stringed instruments. The four main characters – Orpheus, Apollo, Arion and David – have a common extraordinary, and seemingly supernatural, ability to play them. The works selected for the exhibit and commented in the essays show how those particular musical objects determine their lives. From the other side, their figures and stories influence the idea of stringed instruments as symbols of harmony in general.

Susanne Pollack
Susanne Pollack ha studiato storia dell’arte e filologia romanza (italianistica) alle Università di Dresda, Firenze e Berlino. Da alcuni anni lavora presso il Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut. Si è occupata principalmente di grafica del Quattro e Cinquecento, concentrandosi in particolare sui processi dell’innovazione tecnica e iconografica, argomenti che ricompaiono nella sua tesi di dottorato, in corso di svolgimento all’Università di Berna, dedicata al caso dei cosiddetti Tarocchi del Mantegna.
